2002 Sacagawea Dollar

2002-P Sacagawea Dollar

The 2002 Sacagawea Dollar was not released for circulation. After the large number of coins produced during the first two years of the series and the failure of those coins to circulate widely, production was confined to coins produced for coin collectors and sold at a premium.

The United States Mint offered 2002 Sacagawea Dollars for sale starting April 29, 2002 in 2,000-coin bags or 25-coin rolls. Bags and rolls were available from either the Philadelphia or Denver Mint and priced at $2,190.00 for each bag and $35.50 for each roll. The bags were mint sewn with a label indicating the date and mint of the coins, while the face value was indicated on the bags. The rolls were put in custom US Mint theme wrappers which denote the date, mint, and face value of the coins.

Additionally, the Sacagawea Dollars were included in the US Mint's regular annual coin sets, which included the proof version of the coin in the 2002 Proof Set and uncirculated versions from each mint in the 2002 Mint Set.
